Group Project

Well it has beeen a long time since i had blogged anything and from now on i will start blogging so hope I don;t bore you ;)

So first of all I keep you updated on what going on in our group project module. Well Ross, Chris and I are in a group and we decided to do our project on an interactive promo website for the college. Last semester we did all the research and this semester we are building the website, shooting video and capturing images around the campus, so don’t worry if you see us around :)

This week after borrowing the HD Canons from Daniel, we started straight away interviewing some students from around the campus. We also went around taking images of the campus to build our interface for the website.  At the start I thought building the interface in photoshop should be no problem but soon found out that its much more of a hassle then I expected. Anyways at the moment I am trying to solve it, its just the propositions are not quite working for me, wish me luck

Bye for know :)

Visual Language Week 11

Today in the lecture we looked at Interactive/Web design basis then in he lab we messed around with photoshop, and we  were given an assignment to do, which was to evaluate a website of our choice under 5 heading of our choice from the principles of the interactive/web design basis. i chose to evalute google under the following headings:

  • Simplicity
  • Typography
  • White Space
  • Layout
  • colour

Simplicity:

I would see the google website as one of the most easiest and simpliest website to use.  Its deign is simple which makes it stand out from other websites. It as a simple recognisable layout that distinguishs it from other websites. The message of this website is  simple because of its search toolbar that is placed in the center of the page. It provides simple, clear steps and few instructions . it has a recognisable visual design with helps viewers.

Typoraphy:

Googles typography is good, as it doesn’t use to many typefaces. The only lare size font on its its page is it logo sign and that is very effective because it makes it stand out. Google uses sans-serif which makes the page look cleaner on the screen.  The colour, size and shape all contrast toghether to give it an overall visual appeal to the viewers eye.

White Space:

Google uses effective ehite space all over its website, this helps to improve legibility, an give a ood sense of simplicity and communcates a feeling of openess and style. White space on google is balanced, its also uses both micro and macro white spacing.

Layout:

The layout of google is simple and easy to follow which creates a sense of order in the site. It is well formed and organised. Because google uses the  most simplicist layout on its website it makes it more appealing to visters of it site, and therefore it communicates its infrmation more clearly.

Colour:

Google uses  very simple colours on its site, but at the same time uses the design theory very effectivly. This makes its site more appealling.

We were then told to write anything about ourselves, and draw three little small concept from what we had written. from that we had to choose one of the three small concepts and redraw it in a bigger format expanding on this idea a bit more. we were then brought into the labs and Niamh showed us how everyone can set their own weblog, and so we did.
